What's Galileo about?
Galileo is a new rock musical about the famous trial brought by the Catholic Church against Galileo in 1633.
Galileo, an Italian mathematician, geometer, physicist and astronomer, is accused of challenging the widely accepted geocentric model of the time. Having perfected the astronomical telescope, he had established himself as a leading astronomer. His observations led him to advocate a new model: that the Earth revolves around the Sun.

The musical Galileo premiered at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre in May 2024. Danny Strong, one of the screenwriters behind The Hunger Games movies, wrote the book. Michael Weiner and Zoe Sarnak wrote the rock score and lyrics. Michael Mayer, director of Funny Girl, Little Shop of Horrors, Spring Awakening, American Idiot and Chess, directs, with choreography by David Neumann.
