Like the Disney film, Aladdin is based on a tale from The Arabian Nights: Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp.
The story is set in the fictional city of Agrabah, where a man named Aladdin is forced to steal to survive. Through a series of fortunate events, the young man becomes the proud owner of a magic lamp containing a genie with the power to grant three wishes. Aladdin uses this power to win the heart of Princess Jasmine and thwart the evil plans of Jafar, the royal vizier.
